一，雅思和托福所适用的国家不同

托福作为美国教育考试中心出品的专门来测试非英语国家学生的英语水平的考试，更被北美国家和日本等所接受，这便自然与由英国大使馆文化教育处出题的雅思不同，雅思成绩是更被英联邦国家，如英国、荷兰、加拿大、澳大利亚等国家所侧重的英语能力凭证。

同时与托福不同，雅思考试分为普通雅思和UKVI（专用于英国签证及移民），这两大类下又各细分为A类（学术类）和G类（培训类），A类即适合传统的出国留学申请本科、研究生及以上学位的学生，G类则更倾向于想要移民英语国家或申请培训及非文凭类课程的人。总而言之，A类G类的考试内容在听力、写作、口语上都无甚区别，只是在阅读板块A类更注重学术方面，而G类更注重生活实践内容。

二，雅思和托福的考试形式不同

托福作为全机考模式，是听力、阅读、写作和口语都采用对着电脑做题答题的形式，而雅思最传统的则是实体试卷的笔试与口语的面试相结合的形式，但部分地区也有机考的形式。机考与笔试这两种不同的形式都可以说是有利有弊。由于托福的机考是许多同学在同一个考场，同一时间对着电脑考试，相对距离较近，肯定会受到旁边同学考试进度或是口语考试时说话声音的影响，这一点是所有的机考所无法避免的干扰。而对于传统形式为实体试卷加口语面试的雅思，考生虽然说少了机考可能出现的做题时的干扰，但是在口语面试时的临场发挥能力和心理素质就尤为重要了，尤其是对于中国考生来说，本来作为弱势的口语，平均分基本就只有分左右，如果心理素质不过关的考生口语分数便会更低，严重拖累总分。因此建议根据自己的长处来选择机考或是笔试加口试的形式。

三，评分标准与试题形式不同

雅思分口语、听力、写作和阅读四大板块，其中听力、写作和阅读是在一起作为笔试考的，考160分钟，口语则是另选时间与考官进行面对面的交流考试。每个板块的满分都是9分，最后总分是取四项平均分。

托福同样也分口语、听力、写作和阅读四大板块，但与雅思不同，托福的四部分是连在一起以机考的形式考试的，总共要连续地考三个半小时，如此长时间的考试极具挑战性，每个部分满分30分，共计120分，最后取四项总和为总成绩。一般情况，雅思在7分及以上，托福在100分及以上都属于比较好的成绩了，但是想要得到高分也必须要做好充分的准备。比如雅思的口语和写作部分都是中国学生普遍的软肋，平均得分也只有到6分左右，想要得到高分必须要将这两个方面提高，托福也是同样的道理。最后一点很多人容易忽略，就是雅思和托福都是只有两年的有效期，并且报考一次的费用也不低，因此在充分的准备后选择一个合适的报考时间也是极为重要的。
